The forest kindergarten Wiesenknopf in Sigmarszell is expanding its provision. From the coming kindergarten year, 25 instead of the previous 20 care places will be available. In addition, parents will be able to choose between different care models in future.
"Demand for nature-based childcare has risen continuously in recent years," reports head of the facility Sabine Hofmann. "With the expansion, we can give more children the opportunity to experience the forest as a learning and living space."
The forest kindergarten Wiesenknopf has existed since 2015 and has established itself as an integral part of the educational landscape in the municipality. The children spend their day almost exclusively outdoors, in all weathers. Only in extreme weather conditions is a heated construction caravan available as a retreat.
"The children learn to treat nature with respect," explains Hofmann. "They observe animals, collect natural materials, build dens and in doing so develop important motor and social skills along the way. The forest is our group room, and the seasons are our curriculum."
The introduction of flexible care hours is new. In addition to traditional full-day care, parents can now also book morning care or individual models. "We want to respond to the different needs of families," says the head. "Not all parents need full-time care, but still want to enable their children to have the forest kindergarten experience."
The expansion was planned in close coordination with the municipality and Lindau District Office. "The forest kindergarten is a real asset to our municipality," emphasises Mayor Jörg Agthe. "It perfectly complements the provision of the two existing mainstream kindergartens in Schlachters and Niederstaufen and gives parents freedom of choice."
The expansion is financed through parental contributions and municipal subsidies. Fees remain stable despite the expanded provision. "It's important to us that the forest kindergarten remains accessible to all families," says Agthe.
Interested parents can obtain information directly from the forest kindergarten Wiesenknopf about the concept and registration procedures. The facility regularly offers taster days where children and parents can get to know everyday forest life.
